Vertical milling column

Vertical milling column Review

Vertical milling column Feature

  • Turns lathe into a milling machine or drill press in less than 30 seconds
  • Same column as is used on mill. Add an XY table and you have a complete milling machine
  • Uses standard anodized aluminum 1-5/8 handwheel (P/N 3480 column has adjustable handwhl.)
The vertical milling column turns a Sherline lathe into a light-duty mill in less than 30 seconds. Just release the set screw that holds the lathe headstock in place and lift it off its pin. Set the column base over the same pin and secure it with its set screw. Now place the headstock/motor/speed control unit over the pin on the column saddle (with the alignment key in place to keep it square) and tighten the headstock set screw. Now you have a vertical axis, called the Z-axis that gives you all the functions of a vertical milling machine. You can do drilling, milling, boring, fly cuttingeverything you could do on a mill, except that you are working with a smaller table. If your parts are small, this may be all you ever need as far is milling capacity. Should you find you eventually need more milling capacity, you can purchase just a mill XY base and use this column and your lathe drive unit to make a complete mill. Includes standard 1-5/8 laser engraved handwheel with ball bearing thrust. (If using on a 4400-series lathe with adjustable zero handwheels, see P/N 3480)
